Recently, Mixed Bag Designs spoke with John G. Borden Middle School about their recent initiatives to reinforce positive attitudes and to create a supportive environment that motivates all students to learn at the Marlboro, NY school.
The Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports group, also known as PBIS, is running a fundraiser this month to help support the cause. All you have to do is shop online at the store and add the ID# 154580 at checkout. Mixed Bag Designs will then provide 40% of your online purchase to the school.
PBIS is a nationally recognized approach that has been widely applauded for effectively increasing positive school climate and decreasing student referrals. The program also enables students to achieve social competence and academic success.
According to the national organization’s website pbis.org, positive behavior support is a behaviorally-based systems approach. Schools, families, and communities learn how to design effective environments that make negative behaviors less effective and relevant. Desired behaviors then grow to become more prevalent and functional.
The program’s full approach also helps parents reinforce positive behavior at home. PBIS’ R.O.A.R Initiative (Respective, On task, Achieving and Responsible) provides a series of key elements to help parents guide appropriate behavior at home, thus making it easier for students to understand acceptable behavior at school.
The monies raised from the school fundraiser will be used to implement the programs as well as provide resources for student rewards and incentives. If you would like to support a positive learning environment for students at their school, shop online at Mixed Bag Designs and add their ID# 154580 at checkout. If you get your order in by November 23, 2012, shipments will be in before the holidays!
