Yet again, our work with local fundraisers brings us another incredible and inspirational story. Recently our account representative Jackie spoke with a woman on a mission from New York who has traveled far and wide on her walk-a-thon campaign to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer. Read on to hear her touching story and learn how you can help her by shopping online at Mixed Bag Designs (Fundraiser ID#159228)!
One in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer, over 48,000 women lose their battle and every 3 minutes someone learns they have breast cancer. While treatments and survival rates have improved, the breast cancer occurrence statistics have not. Sandy is one of many who have taken a stand to fight these statistics and who hope to raise funds for breast cancer research.
Sandy began walking and fundraising for breast cancer in 1999. Although she does not have breast cancer in her family, over the years she has seen colleagues and friends suffer through the sadness and despair over battles lost to the disease. She also knows countless others who have championed and share their triumphs as well as their challenges related to breast cancer. The statistics speak for themselves and Sandy takes them to heart; and she decided to do something about them. She walks.
Sandy has walked nine 3-day/60-mile walks, first with Avon (NYC 1999-2001) and then with Komen (Atlanta 2006, San Diego 2007, Philadelphia 2008/2010 and Tampa 2011/2012). In July 2013, she is looking forward to leading the NY Girls Gone Miles team as a captain in Boston. Her goal is to raise another $5K for 2013, bringing her to her all-time goal of $100K. She has personalized her challenge with a 10x50x100 goal: 10 walks by her 50th birthday (in 2013) and $100,000. She is almost there and you can help her reach it!
Mixed Bag Designs is proud to help Sandy reach her fundraising goal for her upcoming 10th Komen 3-day 60-mile walk. 40% of every purchase with the fundraiser ID 159228 will go to Sandy’s 2013 60-mile walk.
